I am in the process of recommending a solution for an application that could involve a huge number of transactions (upwards of 15 million on certain days) with support for a small number of concurrent users.

The database will be 100-200 GB within 30 days, possibly peaking at 500 GB in 18 months. There will be heavy disk i/o and need for high availabilty (> 98%).

System cost will be an important issue but will not be the deciding factor. I beleive the application will generate enough revenue to pay for itself because we could add more functionality to bring in additional revenue,if the system is really expensive. Performance is a very important factor.

Due to several other app specs,(I have done some basic tpc analysis, also) I have chosen Oracle as the RDBMS. Now some of the hardware platform choices appear to be:

Unix on RISC System/6000
Solaris on Enterprise 6500 Server
NT on ProLiant 6500
NT on ProLiant 5000

I was wondering if anyone could share some of their experiences using Oracle with these systems.

Thanks !
