Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> 8i NOT include JVM? An "option"?
I have been trying to find information about Oracle 8i and specifically
8i on Linux (soon to be available?) and the differences between Standard
Edition and Enterprise Edition.
I came accros some, for me at least, disturbing information.
When I went to the Oracle Store (trying to see the difference in price between Standard Edition and Entrerprise Edition) I found references to something called JServer (NOT JDeveloper). The Oracle Store description reads as if JServer is the JVM for 8i. I could find no other reference to JServer on the Oracle sites but I did notice that the Oracle 8i has started including references to the Java "option".
This disturbs me because Java in the server has been the entire emphasis and reason for living for 8i. BUT it appears that it has become a server option (which costs almost as much as the server did in the first place).
Is this true? If I upgrade, under my maintenance, etc., am I going to get a version of 8i without Java thus being forced to buy the server all over again to get a version of 8i with Java?
