Hi Mladen,

XFS is the default file system for OEL 7.x / RH 7.x, but this does not mean that it is certified / supported by Oracle for its RDBMS software "out-of-the-box". The official Oracle documentation also states this for OEL 6.x and 7.x:

  • http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37670_01/E37355/html/ol_about_xfs.html: "You must have an Oracle Linux Premier Support account to obtain technical support for XFS with Oracle Linux. The XFS file system is supported for the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2 (2.6.39) and the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 3 (3.8.13) on the x86_64 architecture only."
  • http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/027617.pdf "Oracle Linux customers with Premier Support subscriptions can receive support for XFS on Oracle Linux 6 no additional charge. Beginning with Oracle Linux 7, XFS is the default file system and is included with Basic and Premier Support subscriptions, at no additional charge. This support includes both the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) and the Red Hat compatible kernel. For the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, you must use Release 2 or higher."

All details could also be found in MOS ID #1632127.1.

With XFS we are talking more about scalability and performance on Linux, not about snapshots or something like that.
