Sorry to nit-pick Thomas, Firebird used to call them generators, but changed to the SQL standard naming convention of Sequences some time back. For now, however, the old name remains as a synonym for sequences.
Same problems remain though, a rollback will lose a sequence value and you cannot guarantee no gaps.
