We have a BusinesObjects universe on an NT box and linked to Oracle database. We ran into a problem that stumped us.

The BusinessObjects' Document Agent Server is not able to process any documents scheduled. This was working fine last week and since then, "something" changed. What that "something" is we do not know. This is what happened when we select a report to process:

  1. BusinessObjects returned an error message, "Document Domain not found", followed by
  2. /home/commadm> oerr ora 1034 01034, 00000, "ORACLE not available"
// *Cause: Oracle was not started up. Possible causes
include the following: // - The SGA requires more space than was allocated for it. // - The operating-system variable pointing to the instance is improperly defined.
// *Action: Refer to accompanying messages for
possible causes and correct // the problem mentioned in the other messages. // If Oracle has been initialized, then on some operating systems, verify that Oracle was linked correctly. See the platform specific Oracle documentation.

We were able to log to the database using sqlplus on the NT box that houses the BO repository. We have re-boot the server a few times, again without success. (This has happened before and usually a re-boot of the NT server will restore the document agent functions).

I am hoping for divine intervention or from some of you who had experience this or can provide some suggestions from a dba perspective on what to do next.  HELP! Look forward to your feedback. Thanks very much.

Regards,
Ed
