Is this group dead? (was: The Null Problem is a Non-issue)

Not that you are missing much.

One problem is that Usenet is not so popular any more, and those who access this group through Google Groups... well, you can't blame them if they don't feel like following it (there is also Gmane, but it is much less popular and its web interface is not much better anyway).

Today, people use StackOverflow/StackExchange. Some people in this group are, or have been, active there, too. But those sites are limited to a very strict question/answer form of discussion.

As for the academics in the database field, I think that (1) those interested in theory and foundations are few, and (2) they generally use more traditional channels of communications, i.e., conferences and journals (with exceptions, of course).
