I guess it depends on your background. I think of the natural number 2 as being intrinsicly different to 2.0 because 2.0 is used for a continuum. It's within 5/100ths of 2. 2.00 on the other hand is within 5/1000ths of 2.

Ignoring this leads to the "Calculator Error" where someone multiplys 7.5 by 8.5 and gets 63.75 and thinks this is accurate. They reallymeant 7 and a half by 8 and a half where the half in fact means bigger than a quarter but less than three quarters.
