Well, the "atomicity" definition doesn't hold up under scrutiny, and the "you shouldn't have more than one column about the same thing" definition is too informal. Unfortunately, it's not all that relevant in practise, since domain support is so bad, and I don't see *that* changing anytime in the near future.
