I asked my question poorly, because I neglected to explicitly mention that a car could have more than one owner. Maybe the "cars" example was a bad way of expressing my question to begin with.

Any chance that you could revisit the question with that point in mind?

Also, is it a design flaw to have two tables related in more than one way? Does it violate TNF?
