This is pretty ancient - 1977 according to Amazon. He also wrote 'File Organization for Database Design', published in 1987. I've not read either, so I can't comment on them other than on the basis of age.

But it is quite a tough read when you get into inheritance.

It's quite an interesting book. It covers a lot of the ground. I don't recall a huge amount about the system catalog in there, which was one of the comments in this thread in relation to the Wiederhold book. The system catalog actually tends to be rather boring, but crucial.
