The difference between DBMS and RDBMS? As these acronyms are commonly used, RDBMS is a subset of DBMS. DBMS refers to a DataBase Management System, and RDBMS refers to a Relational DataBase Management System. A RDBMS is one kind of DBMS, but there are other kinds as well, such as object-oriented, objectrelational,  network, hierarchical, deductive, temporal, functional, etc.
