Theory and the vocabulary with which we refer to fundamental concepts aren't necessarily the same thing; although I agree it's annoying that I didn't recognize terms that are in common use.
Most of my knowledge evolved from practical work experience; the ideas behind the normal forms aren't new to me, but the terms to define them were unfamiliar to me.
But I can see how it would be frustrating having to deal with somebody who is lacking a basic command of the language.
