I have a question that a FAQ for this newsgroup would probably answer. If you could just post the URL to the group's FAQ, I'll be gone. If there isn't a succinct FAQ, here's my question...

I'm a cross-platform developer that is fluent in over a dozen programming/scripting languages. I have nearly enough formal education for a minor in computer science (I'm an engineer), but I haven't studied database theory to any great extent. My only self-developed db applications have been puny experiments in db technologies.

I need to learn more about the basics of database theory _without_ any relation to a query language, operating system, special accessing components (like ODBC), or database package. Eventually, of course, I'd like to start learning some hard-core query techniques and accessing components.

If you think you've read a book or subscribed to a periodical that might be of interest to my 'quest,' could you post a title, or email me with any ideas. If there isn't a definitive resource on db theory, I'll compromise and try to start learning from the stand point of a well-established data model.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer, Zac Hester Received on Tue Mar 27 2001 - 06:09:58 CEST
