Hi, I am posting this on behalf of my friends. Please reply to the newsgroup.
#1: installer. install-anywhere from zerog (zerog.com) looks good (even
Sun uses it). a fully functional version is available online for trial.
following are the things that we are looking at:
- need installers for CD (auto run) as well as net.
- need it for: solaris, windows, linux and mac.
- access is the backend database (at least at the client side). now what to do if access is not already installed? if it is installed how ot set up ODBC+JDBC during installation? all the tables/databases will be created dynamically once folks start the application.
- zerog-stuff works fine with the jar files (i looked into it). how ever what if we have splintered files as well (preferences files and things like that)? can we decide file locations during installation time?
#2: file encryption:
all the config files are in plain text format. finally when we ship the
product we want to encrypt all the things. a simple filter shall do. so
if
there is filter class (prbably on bytstreams/printwriter/?? i will
simpely
do all my reads and writes through this filter. j2se solves all the
problems. however, i could not figure out how to save the key in
that. j2se also has some weired security license (like all other
security
stuff). shall we write our own simple encryptor??
#3: help files. i am generating the base html-help files. hopefully
sometime by the middle of the next week, i shall be able to write all of
them and complete all of the wind. can you please, then, walk through
all
the features of wind and complete the html files (HelpBreeze will make
life much simpler)
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
Aakash
