From the newsgroups you've posted to, you already seem biased towards a
microsoft solution. There are plenty of other servers available, some even
open source providing excellent performance (mysql) and programming
interface (postgresql).
For a quick and dirty benchmark of many servers side-by-side, I suggest
visiting web.mysql.com/info.html. Beware to take these figures with a
grain of salt, performance often depends on the sysadmin and programmer.
