Q: Extensible database systems

Hi,

I am new to this group; hence, my question might sound simple to some of you. I am looking for information about extensible databases. My imagination of extensibility is, that the (relational) DB allows the modification of all of its objects, such as table structure, relationships, views, ... and automatically takes care of consistency while the user is modifying the database.

For example: when tables are split, the system should (semi-)   automatically adjust all relations, queries in existing views, ...
