InfoModeler's, Inc. was aquired by Visio in 1998. Visio changed the product name (to VisioModeler) and bundled it (as a seperate application) with Visio Enterprise 5.0. Visio released Visio Enterprise 2000 this year, which incorporated part of the functionality supported by VisioModeler directly into the Visio product. A service relase is due out soon which will incorporate the rest of the functionality. And yes, Visio has been (recently) aquired by Microsoft; in fact, the service release now carries the M$ banner on the splash screen.

While Visio Enterprise is not free ($1,000, I think), you get a lot (roundtrip logical modeling for all major vendors, round trip UML modeling for Visual Studio products, conceptual to logical mapping, etc.) for your money. And it is still cheaper than the other mainstream data modeling CASE tools, let alone how much UML tools cost.
