Re: local tnsnames.ora, if network file is write protected

By default Oracle tools look in the local <ORACLE_HOME>/network( or Net80)/admin directory to find the tnsnames.ora file..

If you place a copy of the network one there and add your new entry, it should work..

You can specify a location by setting an environment variable called TNS_ADMIN - specify the directory you want it to look in...

TNS_ADMIN=c:\mylocation\
