What Linux needs is something Sun, HP, and IBM are working on right now that I have heard referred to as N+1. The ability to share CPU resources between machines. Not just software parallelizing between multiple CPUs on one machine ... but the operating system parallelizing between CPUs on all machines in a data center. And it is a capability that will begin to be offered in about one year.
