how does tns go over tcp/ip?

i was trying to decode some of the oracle data and was wondering if anyone knew how tns can be detected? Like how does someone tell that this packet is tns data? I can't seem to find any specs about TNS [prolly cuz it's oracle's own creation...] but yeah...any comments would help!!
