Below is from the 9iAS R2 installation guide.....

i. Required Skills

  • System Admin – System Administration (root) access will be needed during the installation of either Infrastructure or Mid-tier. Knowledge of how the machine, designated for the 9iAS Release 2 install, is configured is a must.
  • DBA – Since the Infrastructure Metadata Repository is an Oracle 9i database, knowledge of the core components, backup/restore practices and tuning of the Oracle database is important.
  • Web Admin – Knowledge of how major components of the web function is a dominant skill needed for installing 9iAS Release 2. Both Internet and Intranet deployments utilize the web, allowing 9iAS Release 2 to focus on web-enabling many Oracle products. Installing, configuring and maintaining Oracle9iAS is not possible, without this skill.
  • Network Admin – This skill is required in correctly setting up your DNS, modifying your HOSTS file and allowing 9iAS Release 2 to communicate with your backend database.

It seems Oracle views the world with an even finer degree of granularity. Received on Thu Sep 12 2002 - 03:47:17 CEST
