Not sure I would call the migration from Oracle Application Server (OAS) 4.x (or any earlier version for that matter) to Internet Application Server (iAS) easy... but, it definitely works for us. The old OAS web interface did make some things easier , but I do like the Apache way of doing things ... just change the correct config file. But, then again, I also like command line more than guuuuiiii (drip drip drip) .

Definitely read the manual section for compatibility and conversion of old Plsql web apps. It is worth it for this version change. We have been using Oracle's web server(Plsql only) since version 1.0 and this migration/upgrade was a lot more work than any previous change IMHO :)

Note: You don't have to use Oracle Portal with the new version of the Oracle web/application server. You can just use the Plsql 'mod' as it is called in Apache terms.

Also, Oracle marketing must have fun with this tool's name. Some names I remember are:

Oracle Web Server - This was when it was version 1.0
Oracle Web Application Server - This was for version 2.0 and maybe 3.0
Oracle Application Server - This was the version for 4.0 and maybe
3.0
Internet Application Server - This is the latest name for Oracle9i .
Can't remember if there was an 8i , but I think so.
