I highly recommend taking the first two classes in the OCP DBA track offered by ORACLE. The classes are Intro to oracle sql and plsql, and Enterprise DBA Part 1A:Architecture and Administration. They are a bit pricey (between 2G and 2.5 G a class). There is no quicker way to learn. They are both 5 day classes. There is a lot to oracle. Learning from a book is hard. Especially if you are coming from a lesser database like access or paradox, etc.
