I can't think of any issues. I'm using the 9i client software with 9.0.1, 8.1.7, 8.0.3, and 7.3.4 with no problems. The only "gotcha" I have found is that if you use the 9i Net Config utility to setup tnsnames.ora, then the syntax it uses isn't compatible with the 7.3.4 listener and you need to make changes manually.
