TCP or UDP keepalives from Oracle ODBC app to Oracle 8.1.7?

I have a strange problem. When our app sits making no query for about 3.5 minutes, it loses the connection to the DB. But only when on a different network segment.
I'm trying to figure out if it's the router filtering out the
keepalives.
Are Oracle keepalives UDP or TCP?
