M$ developer (with begging bowl in hand) seeking advice on becoming an Oracle developer

I'm an experienced developer who wants to escape the M$ circus; however, I'm totally Oracle-ignorant. Any "wheel-spinning" time that you folks could save me, in my quest to become an Oracle developer, would be most appreciated. What books would you recommend? What books do you consider a waste of time? What (home) PC/software combination/setup would you recommend?
