How to change Oracle internal password

I running Oracle 8.1.6. on Win2K with database instance "prod" and would like to change the Oracle internal password. After I run "orapwd file=PWDprod.ora password=testing" and replaced the $ORACLE_HOME\database\PWDprod.ora with newly created one, I found that the Oracle internal password still not changed. Would someone tell me the rite procedure of doing that ?
