relinking on Solaris

Hi,
I just applied patch on our Solaris box. Oracle recommends we relink the binaries. Is it really required ?. Why is it required ?. Are there are gotcha's I should know about ?. What can possibly go wrong during the process ?.
Any other tips are appreciated.
