Index building takes VERY long

Do have installed 9i (9.0.1.0.0) on Solaris 2.7 host. Ultra1/167 (640Mb ram)
Now we I try to build the following index:

create index mytab_ind on www_html_search(term_sort) indextype is ctxsys.context parameters ('datastore my2_chemstore section group my2_chemstore') tablespace www;

system isn't finished after 3hrs. Table does have about 230'000 rows. Can't use nologging. Where, or which tablespace use oracle during building index, and then where is the index put. Is there possibility to "monitor" index creation, so I could see if there is something going on.
