I have since been corrected by the DBAs. They never said hot backups were not possible.

They said they meant to say hot bacups direct to tape on VMS is not possible using RMAN.

Their team lead insists they use RMAN. SLS and ABS do NOT have the hooks to RMAN. I am investigating legato client for VMS.

Anyone know if legato on VMS will interface with RMAN allowing direct to tape hot backups? I would hate to change to UNIX from VMS (stab me in the heart!).
