how to build the link or convert it ....

hi there ....

i have a problem here about how to link 2 tables to be together. The problem here are .....

1. there are two tables, and i want to link them using two field name which are one is VARCHAR2(255) datatype and another is LONG.
2. I have have tried many options to convert the VARCHAR2 datatype to LONG or the other way .... but i seem could get anywhere.
