I would speculate that combining the Mindcraft report with the response documents is likely to provide the most useful information, as the responses provide information on how to "do Linux right" in similar contexts.
One problem that they point out with the Mindcraft tuning process is the claim that the configuration that was used was, while "tuned to the hilt," also a configuration that would not be terribly stable in practice if any network problems were encountered.
I can't validate or invalidate such claims; it's certainly good "food for thought" for anyone who'd want to consider doing similar sorts of tuning.
