If you want to test the performance then it's better to have a smaller server. With 5 tester, you will not be able to input as much information as i dont know how many user you'll have in production hence if you get performance trouble with 5 tester, you know you'll have trouble in production. On the other hand, if you test performance on an alpha server, it will compensate for the lack of performance giving you the wrong assumption that the system is perfomant. Oracle is effectively multi-platform so you can develop on a NT DB and use it on a Unix DB latter. One of the system i work on have been installed on VMS,HP-UX and NT and everything goes well.
