Wildcard Character %

I am currently developing a database client which has just been delivered to our users as a beta release. They have jumped into convultions at the thought of using the percent sign as a wildcard character rather than the asterisk.

Is there a way of altering Oracle at the server to recognise asterisk as the wildcard rather than the percent sign so I do not have to change the client ?
