Backup on NT from 7.3.2.2

Is it absolutely necessary to use Ocopy73 and disccopy datafiles first (for 7.3.2.2), before a tape-backup can be done?

What functionality does Ocopy73 have in comparison to NT's own for ex xcopy or Legatos copy functions??
