John and Kelly,

The bequeath protocol does't work in between an Oracle 7 client and an Oracle 8 server. It says so in the (Personal) Oracle 8 server documentation and I believe it because I tried it myself (a hundred times at least) until I read the docs as a last resort. It's some time now since I worked on this one, so I can't remember precisely where in the docs. Just do a text file search on "bequeath" and ye shall find.

What does work is TCP/IP via the MS-loopback adapter under Windows NT. There is no loopback adapter for Windows 95 as far as I know ( I tried to find one on the web with no success). So you'll need Windows NT.

Then what you need to do is configure (modify) the tcp-loopback example on the Oracle 7 client side using "SQL NET easy configuration" as well as on the Oracle 8 server side with "Net8 easy config". Be sure to have the Net8 add-on
installed (install PO8 again).

Good luck,

Hans Heemskerk
