Hi,
Can anybody tell me what process.dat and regid.dat do? They live in ORACLE_HOME/otrace/admin and on my system have grown very large.

I have been struggling with a problem over the oast few months whereby the time to get into sqlplus, svrmgr or aby pro c program was getting longer and longer over time. On any program start I would wait up to 30 seconds to get to the prompt. I ran "truss" this evening on sqlplus to find it opening and sequentially reading both files.

If I move the files out of the way, I can get into sqlplus in a nanosecond. Put them back and it takes 30 seconds.

Can anybody tell me what they are and how I am supposed to truncate them properly. When they are not htere they do not get recreated at any point. I don't want to touch them on my production system until I know how best to handle them.

Many thanks,
