I have very limited experience with Oracle on MVS/ESA.
It is version 7.1.6 for MVS. Version 7.2 is out according
to Oracle's web page. My shop is still at the beginning
stage of using it. There is no production on it as yet.
SQLNET is also being run on the mainframe. My shop just
went to OS/390 and Oracle 7.1.6 is having a problem. I
have contacted Oracle Support for help. I have no good feel
for the performance issues other than some very preliminary
results indicate its resource usage may be high. As far as
administration I do not have SQLDBA on a PC. I use the
SQLDBA under TSO, both the full screen mode and line mode
on 3270 devices. The full screen is only so-so. Some parts
do not seem to work. There seems to be a lot of little
gotchas for a lack of a better term if one administers the
database under MVS on 3270 devices. Installation is ok
although I had Oracle people here guiding and installing
it with me. I might look at options of running the instance
on a different machine & just keep the database on the
mainframe if such options are available.
