HELP:Can you define variable on SQL*Plus prompts.

Hi all netters,

I have a query regarding creating variable in SQL command. Cn I say some thing like
SELECT define x=max(value) from XYZ.

OR any other way to define variable in SQL command. Any help will be appriciated.
