It works for us (Oracle 7.2.3 on Solaris 2.5). Are you using NIS plus? As far as I know it is nsswitch.conf and not nswitch.conf (I guess it's just a typo in the posting). Send me email and I'll try to send you my config files.

I have observed that Oracle Installer does not recognize NIS. We had the dba group listed in NIS and not in the /etc/group and the installer did not recoginze this and complained. When I included the dba group in the /etc/group file, the Installer did not complain.
