During a benchmark, we installed Oracle 7.3.2 on an HP T520 running HPUX 10.01, then ran an import from an Oracle 7.2.3. instance. At first, everything seemed find. Then, when we shut down 7.3 and restarted, SQLPLUS would abort. After putting in a call to Oracle, their suggestion was to re-run CATPROC (from SVRMGRL) and try again. It worked. SQLPLUS ran find... until the next time we shut down Oracle. We found ourselves having to re-run CATPROC after every startup.

Another suggested work-around was to use the 7.2 version of SQLPLUS with 7.3. We decided to stick with Oracle 7.2.3 for the time being.

This is a known problem, and only effects customers migrating from Oracle 7.2 to 7.3. At last check, there is a current bug fix in the works. Unfortunately, the pad I wrote the bug number on got left behind at the benchmark site--it's gone with the TAR. Oh well.
