Communication between databases

What would be a good way to have multiple databases talk to each
other?


For example Informix and Oracle. So all data would be the 
same in both databases. 


Right now i am just unloading the  data and importing it.
This doesn't work very well for real time data :)



Could someone recomend a book or software that allows
databases to talk to each other ?
