Not according to the Gartner Group and the Meta group. They believe that Informix is currently leading edge techonology, having just recently completed a rewrite of their core database engine technology. Something Oracle hasn't done for over five years. Oracle just keeps bolting things on, not incorporating them into their core engine. I believe that this will cause the whole thing to come tumbling down sometime in the near future.

We only looked at Oracle and Informix. Oracle was four times as expensive off the shelf. Ran slower on our benchmarks (notice that this is our benchmarks, not someone else's). Required more hardware to run. Had higher administrative costs for personnel. Had administrative tools out of the stone age. Oracle brought in 3rd party tools for us to work with because they were not able to provide what we needed. etc, etc, etc...
