To all in group-advice and comp.databases.oracle:
- it is inconsistent with other names.
Discussion in comp.databases.oracle regarding the differences between .admin and .dba has pointed out that .dba is preferable for the following reasons:
--DBA is much more understandable and less confusing to newbies
searching for the appropriate group.
--Admin is confusing, since it may imply computer administration, unix

To quote some of the comments from the discussion:
of database systems and especially within comp.databases.oracle, dba
is a term used and recognized by practically everyone involved, while
the administration term is hardly used. While the term DBA is an
acronym, it has become practically a word with database workers.
faq, but we have to deal with the general population now. Use
English, not obscure English-like terms with special meanings.
--As for me... if I saw bla.bla.bla.admin I would think it was a
newsgroup for those folks who 'administer' the other newsgroup named

with DBA, makes sense, doesnt it?
Please, anyone from group-advice: Is this an ABSOLUTE rule, to prevent the .dba name? I need to know where to go from here. Is anyone even listening? David Lawrence bounced the RFD to group-advice, and not a soul responded. It seems like those who made the rules have all gone away.
I'm not sure which describes me better in this situation: a ping-pong ball or a dog chasing its tail. Frankly, it doesn't matter to me which name the group finally gets, since I won't hardly read it. I just want to get this mess out of my hair.
