Look I've got to confess, my company is an Oracle Reseller but it seems to me that you have already made 90% of the correct decision. Why not go the rest of the way. How about Oracle Financials. Oracle Financials are a complete system including payroll all based on Oracle 7 Server. In addition, you could add Oracle's Human Resources package and fully integrate them both.

Why recreate that which already exists. Sounds like a long painful process strewn with potential land mines.
