The file ORACLE.INI sets up certain defaults (environment variables?) for Oracle in the Windows environment. RDBMS71 is one of those defaults. Other files refer to these defaults, much like you would use a variable in a programming language. In this case, the file you are looking at is likely accessing something in the path that is stored in the variable RDBMS71. It's like when you have a line in AUTOEXEC.BAT that says SET TEMP=C:\. Applications refer to that location by referencing %TEMP%. Some reference to this (RDBMS71) and others may be found in the Configuration Parameters appendix of your Personal Oracle7 Installation and User's Guide. Hope this helps.
