Howdy all,

I apologize ahead of time if this question is simplistic but I just need to make sure that my understanding in this area is correct before making some purchases.

Basically, for the time being, I would like to run Oracle Workgroup Server on Windows NT. I wish also from WindowsNT to be able to build applications that will utilize the ODBC API in order to access the Server. I understand that everything that I need will be included in the Oracle Workgroup Server product package.

Now, here comes the part that I'm not sure about. As I understand it, SQL*Net TCP/IP comes as a part of the Oracle Workgroup Server product. I would like to access the database now from Unix - say Sun Sparc Solaris. By access, I mean that I would like to develop applications using the ODBC API on UNIX (actually, port my application to UNIX). Does Oracle provide everything that I would need in order to do this? It is my impression that they do not. I would have to purchase the Visigenic (or some other alternative) SDK. This, of course, gives me the Visigenic drive manager. Now, what do I do for a driver on UNIX? I got mixed answers but out of what I can tell, the majority of the people said that Oracle comes with a driver [for UNIX]. Or is it that I would have to license/purchase the drivers from a third party like Visigenic again?

Thanks ahead of time and thanks for tolerating.

Rich
