You can set up a tsnames.ora file that has all the connect information for any and all Oracle connections with an alias. Also in the client server world when you lost a connection or a client's computer froze and they re-booted in 1.1 the SQL*Net connection was still there and it was hard to get rid of. In 2.1 that is supposed to be fixed, if you lose the connection or freezes, then it drops the SQL*Net connection.
