You didn't say what kind of server you're talking about. Here at Ford most of our databases are on HP UX. All of our file systems are very close to Cary Millsap's OFA standard. We move databases from one server to another pretty easily. Even if you have to rename all the database, log and control files, its still goes pretty smoothly. I would try and copy the datafiles, if the two servers are the same type before I do a full EXPort/IMPort.
