about the hide password:

to protect you oracle password you ops$ users.
for a given OS user (say AAA) you define an oracle user
ops$aaa. then from the OS prompt the user rnter by
typing the command "sqlplus /".
this is the best way to protect your oracle passwords couse
no-one knows the password (not even the user !!!)
